(As for Montana, the new signs will feature landscapes of the rocky Badlands, haunting photos of dinosaur remains, and images of the state\u2019s wildlife. Take Alabama\u2019s \u201cWelcome to Alabama the Beautiful\u201d, seen <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teresco.org\/pics\/signs\/20120702\/alabama.jpg\">here<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">; this dull &#8220;Welcome to Illinois, the Land of Lincoln&#8221; sign, seen <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teresco.org\/pics\/signs\/20130627\/illinois.jpg\">here<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">, or this slightly more colorful white-black-green-yellow <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teresco.org\/pics\/signs\/20130627\/iowa.jpg\">welcome<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> from Iowa, home of &#8220;fields of opportunities.&#8221; Some feature warnings, such as Arkansas&#8217;s sign, which states &#8220;Buckle up for safety,&#8221; while others, such as <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teresco.org\/pics\/signs\/20120703\/florida.jpg\">Florida&#8217;s<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">, which reads &#8220;The Sunshine State,&#8221; bear the state&#8217;s nickname and governor\u2019s name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">But the new Montana signs join the illustrious ranks of some of the nation\u2019s more interesting signs, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>5. The Most Iconic: Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/577px-Welcome_to_fabulous_las_vegas_sign.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2622\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/577px-Welcome_to_fabulous_las_vegas_sign.jpg\" alt=\"577px-Welcome_to_fabulous_las_vegas_sign\" width=\"577\" height=\"599\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/577px-Welcome_to_fabulous_las_vegas_sign.jpg 577w, https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/577px-Welcome_to_fabulous_las_vegas_sign-288x300.jpg 288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">This iconic sign might evoke scenes from &#8220;The Hangover,&#8221; &#8220;Bugsy,&#8221; or &#8220;Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas&#8221; &#8212; depending on your cinematic preferences &#8212; or just the sound of rattling slot machines. While not a state-owned sign, the landmark has been welcoming tourists to Sin City for over 50 years at Las Vegas Boulevard South.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>4. The Most Useless: Confused in Michigan<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_2623\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/michigan-school-sign.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2623\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2623\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/michigan-school-sign.jpg\" alt=\"confusing michigan school sign\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/michigan-school-sign.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/michigan-school-sign-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2623\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/this-is-the-worst-school-zone-sign-in-history-5885626\/\">Jalopnik.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">This Michigan school zone <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jalopnik.com\/this-is-the-worst-school-zone-sign-in-history-5885626\/\">sign<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> is found on a stretch of road home to three schools. The sign alerts drivers that the speed limit is 25 mph on school days, and during specific times\u2026 <\/span><i style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">very <\/i><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">specific times: 6:49-7:15, 7:52-8:22, 8:37-9:07, 2:03-2:33, 3:04-3:34, 3:59-4:29.&nbsp; The sign generated more than a few laughs &#8212; it also led to outcries against the local government in 2012 when a local newspaper published a story on its, well, uselessness.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>3. The Creepiest: Skeleton Speed Warnings<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_2625\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/12cityroom-sign-articleInline-v2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2625\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2625\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roadtrafficsigns.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/12cityroom-sign-articleInline-v2.jpg\" alt=\"skeleton sign\" width=\"190\" height=\"218\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From the NYCDOT, via the New York Times.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">New York City\u2019s Department of Transportation campaign, \u201cThat\u2019s Why It\u2019s 30,\u201d was <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.nytimes.com\/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/12\/a-spooky-reminder-to-obey-the-speed-limit\/\">designed<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> to inform New Yorkers of the dangers of driving over 30mph and features custom speed boards &#8212; used to alert drivers of their speed &#8212; that include one of two images. For drivers going the appropriate speed, a silhouette of a pedestrian and the words &#8220;Speed Limit 30,&#8221; appears; for speeding drivers, a skeleton image and the words &#8220;SLOW DOWN&#8221; are illuminated. Creepy, but effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1. It\u2019s a wonder that signs like <\/span>this one<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">, spotted in San Francisco, or <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/paulio\/27883851\/\">this one<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">, spotted in DeKalb, Illinois, don\u2019t cause more accidents and traffic incidents than they prevent.
