Hitch hiking is often unsafe and inappropriate. Disallow it on your roads. A sign is clear and effective.
Standard: If used, the WALK ON LEFT FACING TRAFFIC sign shall be installed on the right-hand side of the road where pedestrians walk on the pavement or shoulder in the absence of pedestrian pathways or sidewalks.
